Benetton Group SpA is an Italian clothing manufacturer. The company was founded in 1965 in Ponzano Veneto by brothers Luciano, Gilberto and Carlo Benetton and their sister Giuliana. In 1968, their first foreign branch was opened in Paris. New York followed in 1980, followed by Tokyo. The brand is best known for its advertisements: shocking photos with the text United Colors of Benetton underneath.

Giuliana Benetton began knitting sweaters when she was 15, working for a local company. Her older brother Luciano saw a future in his sister's activities and decided to start selling the sweaters on bicycles to textile companies. Later, the other two brothers Gilberto and Carlo also began to get involved and this resulted in the Benetton family finally managing to open its first store in Belluno in 1965.
