A new star is born (1962)
The first Havaianas saw the light of day in Brazil in 1962 and were inspired by the Zori sandal: a traditional Japanese sandal with fabric straps and woven rice straw soles. Havaianas replaced the rice straw with rubber, modernized the design and the rest is history! This explains the rice-straw pattern of the Havaianas soles, one of the many design elements that make Havaianas so unique.
And where does the name “Havaianas” come from? Well, it's Portuguese for “Hawaiian. This name was chosen to honor the tropical and beguiling vacation destination with its endless summer vibes.
